: Development requires closing the gender gap in the agro

Lima, March (Special SEMlac) .- If the yields on land cultivated by women reached the men, agricultural production in developing countries would increase between 2.5 and four percent, bringing the number of malnourished people worldwide could be reduced by up to 150 million. Currently, an estimated 925 million people are below the levels of nutrition in this group of countries.
This is one of the striking findings of the report The State of Food and Agriculture 2010-2011, Women in Agriculture, the Organization of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) announced on March 7, on the eve of International Women's Day.
